AI Disclosure
Last updated: October 1, 2026
FamilyHealthBook uses artificial intelligence to help you organize and understand your family's health records. This disclosure explains how AI is used, its limits, and how you stay in control.
How AI Is Used
Document Organization
AI can help categorize uploaded documents (for example, distinguishing a lab report from a vaccination certificate) and extract key fields such as dates, provider names, and test names to save you manual entry.
Document Summaries
AI can generate a short, plain-language summary of a long document so you can quickly understand its contents. These summaries are a convenience, not a replacement for reading the original.
Health Book Assistant
An optional assistant can answer questions about the records you have stored — for example, “When was my child's last vaccination?” or “List all medications Dad is currently taking.” The assistant references your own data to respond.
What AI Does Not Do
AI in FamilyHealthBook is a productivity tool, not a medical professional. Specifically, AI does not:
- Diagnose medical conditions or interpret symptoms
- Recommend, prescribe, or suggest changes to medications
- Provide medical advice or treatment recommendations
- Replace the judgment of a licensed healthcare provider
For important boundaries, please also read our Medical Disclaimer.
AI Suggestions Go Through Your Review
AI-generated content is never silently written to your health records. When AI proposes a summary, a categorization, or an extracted detail, the suggestion is presented to you first. You decide whether to accept, edit, or reject it before anything is saved.
This review step is a core design principle of FamilyHealthBook: AI assists, you decide. You remain the author of your family's health book.
AI Providers
FamilyHealthBook's architecture supports multiple AI providers so that we can select the most appropriate model for each task and avoid dependency on a single vendor. The providers we support include:
OpenAI
Anthropic
Google Gemini
The specific provider used for a given request depends on the feature, the model selected by our team, and your account configuration. We may add or remove providers over time. We will update this disclosure if the set of providers changes.
Data Sent to AI Providers
When you use an AI feature, the relevant portion of your data is sent to the selected AI provider to generate a response. For example, summarizing a document sends that document's text; asking the assistant a question sends the relevant records needed to answer it.
We send only what is necessary for the specific request. We do not send your entire health history when a single document is being summarized. We do not use your data to train external models.
Each AI provider has its own data handling and retention practices. We select providers that offer enterprise-grade data processing options, and we encourage you to review the provider's privacy policy for details on their practices.
Your Control Over AI Features
AI features in FamilyHealthBook are optional. You can:
- Enable or disable AI features individually from your account settings
- Choose to use the Service without any AI features at all
- Review and approve every AI suggestion before it is saved
- Delete any AI-generated summary or suggestion at any time
If you disable AI features, your core record-keeping experience is unaffected. AI is an enhancement, not a requirement.
AI Usage Tracking
We track aggregate AI usage metrics — such as the number of summaries generated and the number of assistant questions asked — to monitor performance, manage costs, and improve the features. This tracking is tied to your account for billing and quota purposes when applicable.
We do not store the full text of AI responses separately from your records. Once you accept or reject a suggestion, the outcome is reflected in your records (or discarded), and the transient suggestion is not retained.
Changes to This Disclosure
As AI technology and our use of it evolve, we may update this disclosure. We will revise the “Last updated” date and notify you of significant changes. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
